Telstra Mobile Service Outage in Western Australia: What You Need to Know (2026)

Attention, West Aussies! A significant mobile service outage is on the horizon, and it's set to impact Telstra users in Kalgoorlie and Esperance. But here's the catch: it's not just a brief blip; we're talking about a 50-hour outage!

For those near Mt. Charlotte, prepare for a lengthy period without mobile service as Telstra upgrades its mobile base stations. The upgrade process will span across several days, with specific outage timings as follows: a four-hour outage on February 2 and February 7, and 10-hour outages on February 3, 4, and 6, and an eight-hour outage on February 5.

In North Esperance, the situation is slightly different, with four-hour outages scheduled for February 9 and 12, and eight-hour outages on February 10 and 11.

But here's where it gets controversial: some of these outages will affect all mobile services, while others may only cause intermittent disruptions. Telstra's regional general manager, Boyd Brown, assures us that the work will enhance the 4G mobile sites, promising faster downloads, smoother streaming, and reduced congestion.

"The upgrade will also future-proof the site for our upcoming 5G network," Brown explained. "We understand the inconvenience, but we'll only switch off the site when necessary, and we'll get it back online as soon as we can."

Telstra customers are advised to enable wi-fi calling in their phone settings to stay connected during the outages. Additionally, any calls made to emergency services during these periods will automatically connect to an alternative mobile network, if available.

The upgrade is scheduled to occur two weeks after Telstra's recent upgrade to the mobile base station servicing the Kalgoorlie-Boulder suburb of Lamington West.

So, West Aussies, how do you feel about these lengthy outages? Is the promise of faster, smoother service worth the temporary inconvenience? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
