Skywell BE11 Electric SUV Revamped! Price Cut & Tech Upgrade After Criticism (2026)

Facing a wave of criticism, Skywell, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has completely revamped its BE11 SUV, and the changes are significant! This bold move comes after both journalists and owners voiced concerns, leading to a comprehensive overhaul and a price cut of £5,000.

Launched in late 2024, the BE11 was Skywell's debut in the UK market. This venture is a collaboration between Skyworth, a major consumer electronics company, and Nanjing Golden Dragon, an electric bus manufacturer. The BE11 aimed to offer similar space to the Nissan Ariya and Skoda Enyaq, but at a more competitive price point – approximately £3,000 less.

However, the initial reception wasn't stellar. Autocar magazine gave it a mere two-star rating, citing subpar performance. Issues included average efficiency, a rough ride, unresponsive steering, and a confusing infotainment system.

But here's where it gets interesting: Skywell hasn't just tweaked a few things; they've made substantial changes to improve the BE11's comfort and everyday usability, while retaining most of the original technical components.

One of the most notable upgrades is the inclusion of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) – a first for the BE11. These systems, developed with UK roads in mind, encompass adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, and lane-keeping assistance. The reason for the initial omission? The BE11 underwent European type approval before July 2024, before the GSR2 regulations mandating such technology came into effect.

But that's not all! The 2026 model year BE11 boasts additional features, including heated and ventilated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, more USB-C charging ports, a 360-degree parking camera, and the option of a new 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The BE11 continues to be offered in two specifications: The Standard Range, powered by a 72kWh NMC battery, offers a range of 248 miles. The Long Range version, equipped with an 86kWh NMC battery, extends the range to 303 miles. Both models are driven by a single 201bhp front motor.

And the best part? The price has been reduced. The Standard Range now starts at £31,990, down from £36,995.

Skywell vehicles are imported into the UK by Innovation Automotive, based in Gloucestershire.

What do you think of Skywell's response to the criticism? Do you believe these changes will be enough to turn the BE11's reputation around? Share your thoughts in the comments!
