Recent reports indicate that Morley Sports Management Group, led by Welsh entrepreneur Rob Edwards, had purportedly taken control of the struggling League One club. This development created a stir, especially since Edwards was spotted at Broadwood Stadium alongside Rebecca Nuttall, a former international middle-distance runner who has been appointed as the acting chief executive.
However, a new twist has emerged in this saga. The Funding Globe Limited, the organization that stepped in to provide emergency financial assistance when majority shareholder Seref Zengin faced difficulties managing payroll for players and staff late last year, is contesting Edwards' claims of authority over the club. Funding Globe represents Johnny Towers, who has recently been named a statutory director at the club after both Zengin and another director, Gerry Strain, were deemed “not fit and proper” by the Scottish Football Association (SFA).
Meanwhile, the administrators from Begbies Traynor, currently overseeing the administration process at Sheffield Wednesday, have been briefed on Hamilton's precarious situation. A statement released on the club’s website last night alerted fans to the looming financial crisis, outlining:
"Hamilton Academical FC is currently under threat of administration following a default under its secured lending arrangements. The Charge Holder (Funding Globe) has made repeated attempts to engage constructively and reach an agreed resolution, however matters remain unresolved at this time, including uncertainty regarding the true ownership of shares. Adding to the club's troubles, Hamilton has already suffered a 31-point deduction over the past nine months due to multiple breaches of league regulations. This penalty contributed to their relegation from the Championship, and they have incurred further deductions this season.
