A bold statement opens this discussion: a top esports star from Thailand is denying cheating allegations after a SEA Games setback, insisting that mental strain, not foul play, caused the events that led to her disqualification. Warasin “Tokyogurl” Naraphat, Thailand’s marksmanship specialist for Arena of Valor, faced a ruling on Tuesday for using unauthorized software during a match against Vietnam. Her disqualification became a lightning rod for criticism across social media as the controversy unfolded.
Tokyogurl, the Thai team’s key player at the event, responded directly to a fan’s message online, arguing that if she had actually cheated, she would have secured a win in the 0–3 defeat to Vietnam. She asserted that she played solo, and she denied claims that she relied on a phone-to-cable setup to cheat. Naraphat disclosed that she suffered a panic attack during the contest, describing a chaotic experience that began with a loss of composure, led to fainting, and required hospital attention. She claimed she only regained sufficient clarity to use her phone after waking up.
Regarding a middle-finger gesture captured during the live stream, Tokyogurl explained that the gesture was meant as a lighthearted joke with a teammate during a tense moment, and not a deliberate insult aimed at viewers.
Contradictions emerged, however, from team captain Jomkhon “Givemeakiss” Phumsinin, who said she observed suspicious cheating behavior from Tokyogurl during the Vietnam game. According to Khaosod, the captain claimed Tokyogurl asked to borrow a competition device to verify and install items, citing her own phone’s lack of internet access as the reason. Such sharing purportedly violated rules that require coach approval and signatures to pass equipment between players.

Screenshots circulating online were said to document the cheating act during the December 15, 2025 SEA Games match against Vietnam.
During the game, Tokyogurl reportedly avoided eye contact and repeatedly tapped on her phone, drawing the attention of a teammate seated nearby. The teammate recalls a moment during which both players paused to discuss what they were seeing, as captured in the broadcast footage. The match was paused for an investigation, and referees warned about unauthorized use of Discord on Tokyogurl’s device, a warning that aligned with the captain’s earlier concerns.
After the game, Givemeakiss reported the incident to the team coach. She described herself as visibly shaken, convinced the behavior violated established rules, and said the team proceeded with substitutions and evidence collection while the investigation continued. She emphasized that the rest of the squad had no involvement and indicated that suspicions had existed for two days prior but lacked solid proof to act at the time.
Allegations persist that Tokyogurl installed software on her phone capable of automatically taking screenshots and sending them to a third party to interfere with play. When the team provided feedback, she allegedly demanded an apology, and, facing insufficient evidence to act decisively, the squad chose to focus on their goal of gold.
Givemeakiss recalled the dynamics within the team, noting the age difference and their personal friendship, which complicated reactions to the situation. The prevailing sentiment was that they had to move forward despite the tension.
The fallout was swift and severe: the Thailand Esports Federation (TESF) disqualified Tokyogurl and withdrew the entire women’s team from the tournament, even as they held a 1–0 lead over Laos in the loser's bracket final. TESF president Santi Lothong stated that preserving the host nation’s integrity required this drastic measure. He praised Laos for showing sportsmanship by not lodging complaints or withdrawing, calling it a reflection of the ASEAN community’s values. He also offered sympathy to the other Thai players who were affected and reiterated that they had given their best effort.
