Ed Lover and Miss Jones Depart 94.7 The Block - RadioInsight
Morning host Tarsha ‘Miss’ Jones and syndicated evening host Ed Lover have left Audacy Rhythmic Throwbacks station 94.7 The Block, also known as WXBK Newark NJ / New York.
Lover first joined Audacy’s 104.3 Jams in Chicago as a morning host in April 2018. He began handling additional duties on WXBK in March 2022. Later that year, Audacy started syndicating his show internally, moving it to nights in Chicago while also adding him in middays on Hot 103.7 in Seattle and nights on 102 Jams in San Francisco and Q100.5 in Las Vegas. In February 2024, Skyview Networks signed a deal to manage ad sales and affiliate sales for the Ed Lover brand.
Before joining Audacy, Lover was best known for co-hosting mornings on the iconic Hip Hop station Hot 97 (WQHT) from 1993 to 1999, and for helping launch Power 105.1 (WWPR-FM) in 2002 with Doctor Dre. The duo also hosted Yo! MTV Raps and had stints at KKBT Los Angeles. Individually, Lover hosted for SiriusXM and led a syndicated show based in Atlanta for Radio One from 2015 through the end of 2017.
Jones kicked off mornings at WXBK in August 2022. A former R&B singer, she began her radio career at WQHT as part of the Star & Buc Wild morning show, later moving to Radio One’s 103.9 The Beat (WPHI) in Philadelphia to team with Michael Shawn. They returned to WQHT as morning hosts in 2000 and were syndicated back to Philadelphia on 100.3 The Beat before leaving those stations in July 2008. The pair then hosted mornings at iHeart’s Power 99 (WUSL) in Philadelphia from 2009 to 2011.
The exits of Jones and Lover come on the heels of the departure of Ebro from MediaCo’s Hot 97 (WQHT). Could these moves signal a broader shift at The Block or beyond? Only time will tell, but the question on many listeners’ minds is: are more changes on the horizon for The Block and other leading hip hop stations?
