The St. Louis Blues have placed Dylan Holloway on injured reserve, a setback for the young forward who was having a breakout season. Holloway, who suffered a high ankle sprain in his right foot against the Chicago Blackhawks on December 12th, has missed 19 games since then and is expected to miss more.
Despite returning to the lineup against the Edmonton Oilers on January 18th, Holloway has missed the Blues' last four games. The team's announcement indicates that he is unlikely to play again until after the Olympic break, giving him time to recover fully.
Holloway's injury struggles have been a stark contrast to his impressive performance last season. In his first year with the Blues, he scored 26 goals and 63 points in 77 games, helping the team qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs. This season, however, he has only played 34 games, scoring eight goals and 17 points.
To fill the void, the Blues have recalled Matt Luff and Hugh McGing from the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds. Luff, a leading scorer in Springfield, has put up 13 goals and 33 points in 33 games, while McGing has provided more tertiary scoring with four goals and 12 points in 35 games.
Despite the setback, Holloway remains a key player for the Blues. His recovery and return to full health will be crucial for the team's success this season and beyond. The Blues will need to manage his playing time carefully to ensure he can contribute at his best.
